Snip snip snip SNIPPY!

"Caesar's wife, Calpurnia, is very psychic."

Is it possible for someone to be VERY psychic? Isn't it just, you are or you're not?

*

Today in class, C----- pointed out, "Miss, you're chewing gum."

(In any other circumstance, this would not seem out-of-the-ordinary; however, any of my students can tell you that NO ONE is allowed to chew gum in the classroom, and as a general rule I HATE GUM. HATE IT WITH THE PASSION OF A THOUSAND FIERY SUNS. This goes back to my first year "gum in the hood" incident.)

"Yes." I said. "I'm going to be chewing gum for the next couple of days. If you want, you can chew it, too. But I don't want to see it or hear it."

In the midst of the resulting excitement ("YESSSSSS! We can chew gum!"), no one asked why. I was prepared. I was going to say, "I am trying to get over a highly addictive habit by developing new habits," and leave it at that. If they asked, I would have told the truth. As it turned out, they were too busy passing around sticks of newly legalised juicy fruit, their minds distracted by the brittle bars dissolving into sweet rubbery pulp, chomp chomp mmmmmmmm...

Can I take this post to mean that you're trying to quit smoking? I used to smoke quite heavily, esp in high school, but quit when I graduated college. Now that I don't smoke, I can't stand sitting around waiting for things: for someone to pick me up, for it to be time to leave or to arrive, for traffic to start moving, etc. What used to be an opportunity to have a cigarette is now just a stretch of boredom.

  2. Are you really?? You're going to quit?? That's great!

As I recently found out, it is one of the most rewarding things you can do. I feel so much better all the time. I can run and do all the things I want to do. Also, I save a BUNDLE by not having to buy them.

Congrats on the decision to quit and good luck. It's very hard...very, very hard! So, make sure you are doing it because you want to, or you'll never make it.

If you need any tips or words of encouragement or anything, call me...you have my number.

    YAY! :)

  3. Yes, but I'm doing so quietly. Less pressure that way. More chance of success. I find the more people I tell "I'M QUITTING!!!" the more I fear I'll let them down which really makes me want a cigarette.

I think there are different levels of psychic abilities. Actually, I think we're all psychic, but we're tuned in to it at different frequencies... like a radio. Some people are right on the money, and some of us just get the static between stations. But we all have the capability to adjust the dial. So I think it's OK to say she's "very psychic."

One thing that really helped when I was quitting was I started jogging for 1/2 hour each day. It was quite difficult for the first few weeks but after your body acclimates to the exercise your heart becomes stronger and you come to really look forward to your daily run and it functions as a replacement for the relaxation that smoking used to provide. So you might consider jogging. Houston is a nice climate for jogging.

I agree with our mother, but I think I can explain it without sounding like a hippie. The difference between psychic and very psychic is all in the details. The more specific your premonitions, the more psychic you are.

Psychic - "Caesar, beware the Ides of March!" (Could we be vaguer? Very psychic my eye!)

Very Psychic - "Macbeth, your castle will be attacked by those tree creatures from Lord of the Rings and then you're going to be killed by a man named Macduff, who by the way was not of woman born. Also, don't order the veal tonight... Stick with the chicken."

Most Psychic - Miss Cleo. Can you believe there are idiots out there who think she's a phony? Idiots.

Just Plain Obvious - "Like, Scoob, I got a bad feeling about this!" - Shaggy
