Car-ma
January 31st, 2005. Peeved that my car insurance keeps going up, I try to negotiate with the Progressive woman: "What's this comprehensive coverage? My deductible is awfully low right now. What would happen if I raised that number?" The Progressive woman informs me (and I find this dubious) that changing the deductible will not affect my premium. Is she aware, I ask, that I am about to turn 25, the magical car insurance birthday? This, she informs me, is a myth. Eventually I concede the car insurance battle, pay in full (ouch), and hang up in a huff.
One week later, dirty rotten thieves smash in my car window. They wrestle with Rosa for the CD player, but she is stubborn, that car of mine. The dirty thieves concede the CD player and leave me the faceplate (thank you, that was considerate), but not before bending the dashboard all out of whack.

I take the car to the people at Progressive (who are now my best friends) and owe them: $99.
I feel blessed that most of the unfortunate things that happen to me fall under the category of "shit happens... but think of all the shit that COULD have happened but didn't."
Here's a wet cat picture, just to end on an upbeat.
Man, I thought it would go much worse! Thank god you have a BMW baby. I was rooting for you today.

XOXO Camille
The best part was rooting through broken glass to pull out the sad little sticker: "protected by hyundai security." NO IT'S NOT!
ReplyDeleteWell, when you stop and try to see this thing through the eyes of the other guy, it's hard to see how that very wet cat can be very happy about the way things turned out. ;-)
ReplyDeleteProgressive ain't all the customer service they say they are. But it's cheap insurance, and YES, if you lower your deductible (mine is $250) is does lower your rate. That's the whole idea. What is she talking about? Crazy lady. I like 'em, but they did make me drive an friggin' Oldsmobile while Ranger Rick was in the hospital. OK, I'm done. Pir8 H
ReplyDeleteDirty Bastards!
ReplyDeleteBut hey, look on the bright side...at least they tidy-ed up before they left. If you think about it, they really could have left your car a complete mess.
I have Progressive Insurance, and I can say that they are not the best in customer service, but if you're like me and don't get in accidents, they can be very cheap. That woman is a moron. If you raise your deductible, you will pay less in premiums. She's stupid...or on the take from Progressive...wait...what do you mean she "works" for them? Are you saying that they pay her to tell little white girls (and, of course, I mean that in the best way possible) that there is no way to lower their payments? Very interesting...
The cat was cute...
Here's a hug!
::BIG HUG::
i can also vouch that the 25 and older thingi is NOT a myth. kick her in the shins.
ReplyDeletealso... *hugs* i'm sorry. things are gonna look up for you soon!
Agreed! That 25 and older thing is NOT a myth. My car insurance was $620 when I was 24. It's more than $150 lower now (I am 26).
ReplyDeleteThe 25 year thing applies only to males. And it turns out the woman at Progressive did you a favor, albeit merely serendipitous. All's good. --Mom
