    Mary,
After reading your blog for several months, I believe I have fallen kind of in love with you. (In case you're wondering, I am a graduate student in my upper 20s, of above-average -- but not spectacular -- looks, and I got a 1440 on the GRE, v + q.) What should I do? Please advise.
    Sincerely,
    Secret Admirer

  2. Sorry dude. Dating is out. But knitting is in, and studying for the GREs is DEFINITELY in. Bring some needles and your prep materials and we can work something out. My email is over there.

    Hey guy--
Don't be discouraged, just wait a bit... I like the sounds of you. Two questions-- Do you live in Houston, and Where your GRE scores more heavily weighted towards Math or Verbal?
    Love,
    Lana

    *giggles at the infighting*Dear Girls,

Actually, I'm a little surprised at the interest. I didn't really expect a reply. I kind of thought I was describing myself sensationally, like they might describe fish at the pet store: "Beautiful, exotic red discus! Extra-fancy markings. Energetic. Less than 3 months old. Only $4.99!"

In any case, since the stats have seemed to sway you, a few confessions are in order. Notice I didn't tell you my Analytical score? That's because I scored only 640ish on that section, a trauma that deeply ingrained itself upon me and lives in infamy in my memory.

Also, I passed myself off as in my upper 20s, and while that's technically correct I'm just a few months shy of 30. It would have been less disingenuous of me to round up, don't you think?

Lana-fish, to your questions: No, I don't live in Houston, nor even in Texas. (I did graduate from UT Austin, though. I love Austin.) Strangely, I got the same score on the V and Q sections: 720. Of course, it corresponds to different percentiles: 98th/V and 80ish/Q.

So really, as you can see, it is not only the case that you wouldn't want to date me (even if dating was not OUT), but also it is technically impossible for you to date me given how far away from you I live.

    Sincerely,
    A Guy
