Caroline said I should post so here goes

I am organizing the books on the shelves BY COLOR. Before it was by genre and then alphabetically but by color is sort of interesting. I'll never be able to find anything except the three copies of (the bright yellow) Love That Dog. Soon perhaps if there is popular demand I will tell you some of the anchor red, blue, yellow, green, black, tan books. But not on the iPhone. It is great in theory but sucky to write on.

I highly approve of organizing books by color. I just read an article about how book lovers will always be able to find their books no matter how unconventional the organization.

  2. I thought about doing that before...I think I ended up not doing it because my shelves weren't all tall enough to accommodate my tallest books, but it actually worked out when I did it by genre then alphabetical by author...

Anyway, there should be pictures of your completed shelves. =)

Thomas Jefferson apparently organized his books like this:

<< In this reconstruction of Jefferson’s library, the books have been arranged in an order that Jefferson described as “sometimes analytical, sometimes chronological, and sometimes a combination of both.” Jefferson followed a modified version of the organization of knowledge created by British philosopher Francis Bacon (1561–1626). The books were divided into categories of “Memory,” “Reason,” and “Imagination”—which Jefferson interpreted as “History,” “Philosophy,” and “Fine Arts”—and further divided into forty-four “chapters.” >>

Pretty cool to be conciously following a modified version of anything created by Francis Bacon. Otoh, they didn't generally have such colorful book covers and bindings back then. And maybe some of the chapters were colors. :-)

    Cheers.
