I can't seem to get an exact number, but the Internet agrees that there are only a few of this Barrnett Newman statue in the world. One is a few blocks from my house. (Love those de Menils.) The one in Houston originally came from the Corcoran Museum in DC (like me!). Another is in Seattle, on the UW campus--I got to see it this week, prompting a double take. A third is in New York and possibly a fourth is in Berlin (unless it's not). Like the fragile peace they represent, they all need repairing, all the time.
Actually, this whole "are there three or four?" is kind of interesting in its own right.
Let's go to Berlin and find out!
