This post reminds me of Red Desert, the postindustrialist Italian period masterpiece by Antonioni. I'm not saying that it is exactly like Red desert, or that it takes place in a postindustrial setting, or even that I understood what was supposed to be so "postindustrial" about Red Desert in the first place, since it is mostly set in a factory and all. I mean, come on, if the factories aren't "industrial", what are -- the pine trees? Still, this post reminded me of that film. If there had been an appearance by a young Richard Harris, the illusion of similarity would have been complete.
