Conversation outside Buck-E's on the way to Austin:

Me: In this TV show I've been watching, inanimate objects with faces talk to the main character and tell her to do things. I think about that now whenever I see animals on things, like that beaver.
R: So if we were in the show, that beaver would talk to you and say, "Buy Ryan a diet coke"?
M: No, it's much more abstract than that. It would say something like "Quench his thirst" and I would go buy you a coke which would trigger some meeting or chain of events that would lead to quenching an entirely different, abstract sort of thirst, like the thirst for knowledge or some shit.
